Managing a Violation Case

The violation detail page is where you track a case from open to closed.

Case Timeline

Every action taken on a case — notices sent, reinspections, fines, decisions — appears as one continuous timeline. Completed events show as filled dots with the date and who did it; anything still ahead (like Board Review or Resolved) shows as an outline placeholder so you can see at a glance where the case stands, without a separate summary to keep in sync.

Status actions

  • Send Notice — compose and send a notice to the homeowner, optionally starting from a saved template. The exact text sent is permanently recorded, even if the template is edited afterward.
  • Log Action — record any other event (reinspection, hearing scheduled, fine assessed) without changing the case status.
  • Mark as Cured — confirms the violation was physically corrected. You will be offered a one-click option to also formally resolve the case right away, or you can leave it in Cured status and close it out later.
  • Dismiss — closes the case without a fine or further action.

Reopening a case

If a case was closed or marked cured by mistake, click the menu next to the status badge and choose Reopen Violation. This is deliberately one extra click and requires confirmation — reopening is always logged with a timestamp and your name, same as every other action.

Messages

Homeowners can send a message about their violation from their portal. It appears in the Messages card on this page, and you can reply directly — your reply is emailed to the homeowner and saved as part of the case record.
