Working with Smart Presets
What Are Smart Presets?
Smart Presets are pre-configured field groups that automatically create multiple related fields at once. Instead of adding "First Name," "Last Name," "Street Address," "City," "State," and "Postal Code" individually, you can add a single Address or Full Name preset and all the sub-fields are created for you.

Configuring Presets
After adding a preset to your form:
- Click the preset field on the canvas
- The settings panel shows configuration options
- Toggle sub-fields on/off as needed
- Click Update to save changes
Preset Sub-Fields
Each preset creates multiple "child" fields. These appear as a group on the canvas but can't be individually edited or reordered — they move together as a unit.
What You Can Do:
- Move the entire preset up/down on the canvas
- Toggle which sub-fields are included
- Mark the entire preset as required or optional
- Delete the entire preset
What You Can't Do:
- Reorder individual sub-fields within the preset
- Change labels of sub-fields (they use standard labels)
- Delete individual sub-fields (only toggle them off)
When to Use Presets vs Individual Fields
Use Presets When:
- You need standard, complete information (full address, complete name)
- You want consistent formatting across multiple forms
- You're collecting information that has a standard structure
Use Individual Fields When:
- You only need partial information (e.g., just city and state, not full address)
- You need custom labels or non-standard field names
- You want complete control over field order and configuration
Preset Best Practices
- Disable unused fields — If you don't need middle names, turn them off
- Match your use case — Use US region for domestic events, International for global
- Test the output — Submit a test response to see how preset data is formatted
- Explain if needed — Add a Section Header or Description Text above presets to clarify why you're collecting the information
Viewing Preset Responses
When someone submits a form with presets, the responses are stored as individual fields:
- Address preset → Separate columns for Street, City, State, Postal Code, etc.
- Name preset → Separate columns for First Name, Last Name, etc.
- Dietary preset → Checkbox selections and notes in separate columns
This makes it easy to sort, filter, and export responses in a structured format.
