The Primary Contact Star
When a unit has more than one contact — co-owners, a spouse, a property manager — a small star appears next to each one. Starring an owner marks them as the unit's primary contact.
The star is optional. Most associations never need to touch it.
When the star matters
It applies only to elections set to send the ballot to one owner per unit. Under that setting, the starred owner receives the ballot. If nobody on the unit is starred, the first owner added to that unit receives it.
New elections default to sending the ballot to every owner on the unit. Under that setting the star has no effect at all — every owner receives the ballot, and the unit still casts one vote.
Setting it
Click the hollow star next to an owner's name. It fills in, and the star clears from anyone else on that unit — a unit has at most one primary contact.
Stars only appear on units with more than one contact. A unit with a single owner has nothing to choose between.
Owners who cannot be starred
An owner who has unsubscribed or whose address has been marked invalid cannot be starred, because a ballot would never reach them. Their star is greyed out and cannot be clicked. They stay assigned to the unit — they simply will not be the one who receives the ballot.
The same rule applies under either delivery setting: undeliverable contacts are skipped when ballots go out.
